A Peaceful Church

St Nicholas Church is an ancient East Roman basilica church in the ancient city of Myra, which was originally used as a house of worship for Orthodox Christians between the 5th and 12th centuries.It was rebuilt several times due to weather, earthquakes, floods and war during the period. The building we see today was built on the foundation of an older church after St Nicholas died (Dec 6, 343)to protect his tomb and honour his memory.
It is located in the main square of Demre which is around 220 kilometers 140 minutes drive from Antalya and is open daily from 0830-1900.
Wall paintings of the 12th century about scenes including the life story of St Nicholas in the sepulture located in the south side of the church, he is also known as Santa Claus who is said to bring gifts during the late evening and overnight hours to childrens.
