Hakodate is famous for its three major night views and picturesque scenery.
The open spaces typical of a port city, exotic religious buildings, and the unique perspectives from the hilltops.
Hakodate is a place you can enjoy just by looking at it without spending a lot of money.

We'll travel from Sapporo by bus!

Introducing a one-day, one-night itinerary to match!

1) ~Before 2:00 PM: Lunch at the "Hakodate Morning Market"

The Hakodate Morning Market is filled with fresh seafood dishes straight from the ocean!
Try a variety of rice bowls featuring salmon, tuna, shrimp, crab, and sea urchin.
While prices are by no means cheap, there are also some reasonably priced options, ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 yen. Many places don't accept credit cards, so it's a good idea to bring cash!
It's only open until 2 PM, so get there before then!

2) Window Shopping at the "Hakodate Morning Market Square"

The Morning Market Square right next door is a true market! You can see freshly caught seafood and even eat it on the spot! (Be prepared for the price!) That's why I personally recommend window shopping!

3) Souvenir Shopping at JR Hakodate Station

Now, let's head back to Hakodate Station for a bit. You won't have time to shop for souvenirs if you don't! Don't forget to grab some Shiroi Koibito. And maybe a magnet. Don't forget to take a commemorative photo with the upcoming Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba collaboration!

4) Explore the Mashu Maru

You can enter the Mashu Maru, a ship that was actually used. Apparently, there are various exhibits. I couldn't go in because it was closed due to the tsunami. Sob.

5) Red Brick Warehouses

Walk around the red brick warehouses, which retain their original appearance. This is another music box spot that rivals Otaru's! Listen to famous songs on a variety of music boxes, from Japanese to Western styles!

6) Hachimanzaka

Hachimanzaka is a famous scenic spot in Hakodate. While the climb isn't easy, the exquisite angle of the slope, the glimpse of the ocean at the top, and the surrounding shore stretching out beyond are truly impressive. Every downhill slope has its own uphill and downhill!

7) Quaint Cathedrals

Hakodate shares the exotic charm of a port city! Take a princess-like photo in front of this exotic religious facility!

8) Mount Hakodate

One of Japan's top three night views. This beautiful space can be summed up in one word. For more information, please refer to our separate article, "Hakodate Moments."

9) Lucky Pierrot Hakodate Station Branch

It's around 9:00 AM when you descend from Mount Hakodate! Now it's time to enjoy Lucky Pierrot, the famous burger chain only found in Hakodate! This place closes the latest, so make sure to catch it!

10) Heading home!

It's 11:00 AM! After a long day of fun, it's time to head back to your hotel or home. You still have time for your afternoon flight tomorrow? That's great! Let's enjoy Goryokaku on Day 2!

May you have a wonderful time in this picturesque space!
Blessings to your wonderful world!
