Fort Goryokaku, a check-in spot with the most amazing starry views in Hokkaido

When in Hakodate, you can't miss Goryokaku Tower!
This is the observation deck for Goryokaku Fort, Hokkaido's iconic five-pointed star fort. The view from above is breathtaking.

Once you take the elevator to the top, you'll be rewarded with a 360-degree panoramic view—the star-shaped fortress is perfectly visible, surrounded by trees and distant mountains. If you visit in winter, it's a blanket of snow, while the cherry blossoms are a delicate pink.

Inside the tower, there's an exhibition telling the history of the fortress, which is a fun way to browse through. There's also a cute souvenir shop and delicious, fragrant fresh milk soft serve ice cream. Enjoy the view while you enjoy the view.

It's easy to get to. From JR Hakodate Station, take tram lines 2 or 5 to the Goryokaku Koen Mae stop. It's a 10-minute walk.
