✨Hakodate is a seaside port city with a beautiful atmosphere, blending Japanese and Western influences. Most importantly, the seafood is fresh and delicious. Anyone visiting here should definitely stay for 1-2 nights, as it's a 4-hour drive from Sapporo.
🚃Getting around Hakodate is easy. There's no subway like in major cities, but instead, you can travel by tram. Tourists like us can purchase tickets at the tourist information center near JR Hakodate Station. We recommend purchasing a one-day pass for a better value.
🏨On this trip, we stayed at HOTEL MYSTAYS Hakodate Goryokaku. The room was clean and spacious, with a view of Goryokaku Tower.
🌟Don't miss highlights:
🏔️ Mount Hakodate
You can reach the top by cable car. 🚠 Be sure to book a seat early, as it's a popular sunset viewing spot with stunning views. The night view is equally stunning, offering views of the entire city, nestled between the sea on both sides.
🐟 Hakodate Morning Market
This market is located next to Hakodate Station. Accessible by tram, this place is a paradise for raw fish lovers. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from, all at great prices. They don't skimp on ingredients, offering shellfish, shrimp, and especially uni. It's absolutely worth waking up early for.
🏢 Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse
Another landmark here, inside the warehouse is a shopping area, with gift shops and dessert shops. Each shop is exceptional. We recommend Snaffle's Cheesecake, for its melt-in-your-mouth cheese souffle. You can dine in, and don't forget to grab some to take home.
Tired of walking? Need a snack?
🍔 Lucky Pierrot, a local burger restaurant with branches all over Hakodate. Their signature clown character, with a fantasy-themed interior, is their signature dish: fried chicken burgers. They also offer curry and spaghetti.
🌸 Goryokaku Tower
Hakodate's observation deck. During cherry blossom season, it's one of the most beautiful spots in Hokkaido. From the top, you can see the breathtaking scenery. Five-pointed star-shaped fortress
📸 Hachimanzaka Slope, a popular photo spot. A popular tourist destination, Hachimanzaka Slope is a road leading up the mountain, stretching out to the sea. It's accessible from the tram station. There are many other slopes in the area, each just as beautiful and less crowded. Try strolling around, enjoying some ice cream, and soaking up the city atmosphere.
For those seeking a quiet retreat from the big city, this is the place to go. It offers a slower pace of life, yet still offers all the amenities you need. Find whatever you're craving. This is another city in Japan that's well-rounded and worth a visit.
