🚃 Departure: Start from Hakodate Station!
First thing in the morning, we arrived at JR Hakodate Station, Hokkaido's gateway. The striking logo of the station building, standing under a blue sky, gave us a sense of the beginning of our journey. There's also a tourist information center in front of the station, where you can get maps and recommendations.
🍚 Breakfast: Fresh Seafood "Three-Color Bowl"
First, we headed to the market near the station. For breakfast, we had a three-color bowl of rice topped with sea urchin, scallops, and crab. Every ingredient was melt-in-your-mouth fresh, allowing us to fully experience the bounty of Hakodate's ocean. The sweetness of the scallops was particularly impressive!
🧱 Tourist Spot 1: Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses
Next, we visited the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses, a symbol of the port city of Hakodate. The historic buildings and ocean views blend in harmony, making this an area that's enjoyable even just to stroll around. Many tourists enjoyed taking photos in the "BAY" area, where ivy tangles over the walls.
🌊Sightseeing Spot 2: Spectacular View from Hachimanzaka
Next, we headed to the famous view spot, Hachimanzaka. From the top of the hill, we could see the entire Hakodate cityscape and harbor. We were blessed with beautiful weather, and the contrast between the blue ocean and the city was truly beautiful. This was a place that truly embodied the essence of Hakodate.
🏔️Sightseeing Spot 3: Hakodate Mountain Ropeway
In the early afternoon, we headed to Mount Hakodate. Taking the ropeway to the top of the mountain, we could see the entire city and coastline below. While famous for its night views, the daytime views are also spectacular and perfect for photography.
☕Cafe Time: Banana Caramel Pancakes
At a cafe during a break from sightseeing, we ordered banana and caramel pancakes. The fluffy pancakes, rich sauce, and ice cream complemented each other perfectly, providing a sweet respite from our tired bodies.
♨️Ending the Day: Refreshing at Yachigashira Onsen
Our final stop was Yachigashira Onsen, a popular hot spring among locals. The spacious baths and natural brown waters allowed me to relax and soothe my travel fatigue. This authentic hot spring is perfect for a day trip.
🕓Summary
Although it was a short trip, it was a fulfilling day packed with the best of Hakodate, including food, scenery, and hot springs. The beautiful cityscape and warm people make this a place I'll want to return to.
