【Hallstatt】A breathtaking lakeside town.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hallstatt is often referred to as the most beautiful lakeside town in the world. Its stunning scenery even served as inspiration for the movie "The Sound of Music."

Surrounded by the European Alps, the views are simply spectacular! Though small, this fairy-tale-like town is packed with attractions. While you can visit Hallstatt as a day trip from Vienna by train, we highly recommend splurging on an overnight stay to fully enjoy its charm.

Let us introduce you to this magical town!

① Panorama Viewpoint (Photo 1)
This iconic view of Hallstatt is one you’ve likely seen before. The breathtaking beauty will leave you speechless. Whether you visit in the morning, afternoon, evening, or night, the atmosphere changes slightly, offering a unique experience each time. Located just a 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal or the town center, this spot is a must-visit!

② Hallstatt Lake (Photos 2, 3)
Right in front of the town lies Hallstatt Lake. The reflection of the surrounding scenery on the water’s surface is simply stunning. In summer, you can take a ferry from the opposite shore to enjoy the picturesque townscape from the water.

③ Hallstatt Old Town (Photos 4, 5, 7)
The compact old town is incredibly charming and fairy-tale-like. The colorful houses lining the lakeside are absolutely adorable! It feels like stepping back in time to medieval Europe. With cozy cafes and restaurants, it’s the perfect place to relax and soak in the atmosphere. There’s even a church nearby worth visiting⛪️.

④ Salt Mine (Photos 3, 8)
Known as the "Salt Town," Hallstatt is home to the world’s oldest salt mine🧂⛏️. You can join a salt mine tour and enjoy an adventurous experience.

Start by taking a cable car up the mountain, followed by a short hike to the entrance of the salt mine tour. Inside, you’ll pass through tunnels, ride a cart-like vehicle, and learn about the history of salt mining. A highlight of the tour is the wooden slide, where you can even measure your speed—so much fun!

At the gift shop, you can purchase salt as a souvenir, so don’t forget to grab some.

The tour, including the cable car ride, costs around 6,500 yen, which might seem a bit pricey, but it’s absolutely worth it. Don’t miss out on this unique experience.

Enjoy a stylish day in Hallstatt!
