1. Chilechuan Grassland
Located northeast of Hohhot and backed by the Daqing Mountains, this grassland gained fame from the ancient "Chile Song." After ecological restoration, it now showcases the majestic scenery of "vast skies and boundless wilderness," with meadows interwoven with wildflowers. With an average summer temperature of around 19°C, it's a perfect summer retreat for visitors from Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei. Must-visit spots include the Red Cliff sunset, Chilechuan Cultural Scenic Area, and cycling around Hasuhai Wetland. Experience a grassland bonfire party and stay in a traditional Mongolian yurt.
2. Xiangshawan Desert
A 5A-rated scenic area at the eastern end of the Kubuqi Desert in Ordos, famous for its "singing sands." The crescent-shaped dunes reach up to 110 meters, and you can hear thunder-like sounds while sandboarding. Enjoy activities like desert cable cars, camel rides, and dune buggies. At night, watch the live performance "Ordos Wedding" and stay at the Lotus Resort Hotel with its starry sky pool. Nearby attractions include Genghis Khan Mausoleum and Qixing Lake, forming a cultural loop of grassland and desert experiences.
3. Ulanqab Volcano
The Ulanhad Volcano Group, known as the "Natural Volcano Museum," features over 20 volcanic cones. Hike to the summit of Volcano No. 3 (North Alchemy Furnace) for panoramic grassland views, admire the pristine form of Volcano No. 5, or don an astronaut suit for "Mars" photo ops at Volcano No. 6. The best time to visit is summer, paired with horseback riding in Huitengxile Grassland and cable car rides in Huanghua Valley. Spend the night in a yurt and join a bonfire party. This blend of geological wonders and Mongolian culture has made it a trending hotspot in recent years.
