As of 2024, there are 59 registered world heritage sites in China, the second highest number in the world after Italy's 60.
This time, we will introduce West Lake in Hangzhou, which can be reached in an hour by high-speed rail (about 2 hours by car) from Shanghai.
Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is a large city located 170 km southwest of Shanghai. West Lake, located in the center of the city, has been praised by many poets and painters since the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The area is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is often covered in mist, creating a landscape like a landscape painting.
The area including West Lake and its surrounding area is registered as a world heritage site, but what is it really like?
First of all, my honest impression is that it is an ordinary lake.
Because there were many people, there were many boats floating, and the scenery was a little far from being interesting.
However, it is said that after the rain or when there are few people, you can see a beautiful view like a sumi-e painting.
As it is a tourist destination, there are many souvenir shops.
Particularly delicious was the soft serve ice cream made with Longjing tea, a famous tea in Hangzhou.
This was shockingly delicious.
In my opinion, Longjing tea has no peculiar taste and is more refreshing than green tea.
If you visit Hangzhou, be sure to try this!
