Fuchun Mountain Residence in Fuyang, the reclusive abode of Huang Gongwang, a sanctuary away from the world

This trip to Hangzhou, I deliberately avoided the city center and chose Fuchun Resort, a golf retreat—never expected to step right into a real-life version of the "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" painting! ⛰️
🌿 A hidden paradise
Nestled within Huang Gongwang Forest Park in Fuyang, the resort is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces a river. Driving in through a stunning tree-lined road instantly makes you feel secluded. Our villa overlooked vast tea fields, and waking up to misty mountain views at dawn was breathtaking!
🏌️ A golfer’s dream
As one of Asia’s top golf resorts, it boasts an 18-hole championship course—even a non-golfer like me was tempted! The design blends Jiangnan garden aesthetics, with undulating fairways that make every shot photogenic. Beginners can book lessons (¥380/hour) or simply enjoy afternoon tea at the clubhouse while watching others play.
🛏️ Room experience
Our 80-sqm garden villa had a modern Chinese aesthetic—right up my alley! The highlight was the spacious balcony, perfect for stargazing with tea at night. The bathroom featured underfloor heating and a huge tub, with L’Occitane amenities. With only 70+ rooms, it never felt crowded.
🍽️ Dining picks
• **Shanju Ge** serves authentic Hangzhou cuisine—don’t miss the Longjing shrimp and Dongpo pork.
• The Western restaurant’s afternoon tea set is Instagram-worthy, served on custom blue-and-white porcelain.
• Surprisingly delicious room-service scallion oil noodles—ideal for late-night cravings.
📸 Photo spots
1. The infinity pool (heated) with terraced tea fields as a backdrop.
2. Morning mist over the tea fields at 7 AM—stunning in Hanfu.
3. The 13th-hole lookout point, offering panoramic resort views.
4. The lobby’s spiral staircase, with cinematic lighting à la Wong Kar-wai.
🚗 Nearby activities
• 15-min walk to **Huang Gongwang’s Hermitage** (where the painting was inspired).
• 20-min drive to **Longmen Ancient Town**, far quieter than West Lake’s tourist spots.
• Free resort bikes for exploring Fuchun River’s greenways.
⚠️ Tips
• Best accessed by car (~1 hour from downtown; free parking).
• Weekends may host weddings—check availability.
• Non-guests must book golf in advance (¥1,280/18 holes).
• Bring mosquito repellent—mountain bugs are fierce!
💡 Hidden perk: Some Ctrip bookings include spa vouchers—their bamboo-themed massage is divine (pricey but worth it).
Waking up to birdsong, painting by the landscape… now I get why ancient scholars sought seclusion! 🗻
