Lingyin Temple, Hangzhou: A Sanctuary of Spiritual Peace

Lingyin Temple is one of the oldest and most revered Buddhist sites in China. Founded over 1,600 years ago, it is located at the foot of Feilai Peak near West Lake in Hangzhou. The name translates to 'Temple of the Soul's Retreat' or 'Temple of Spiritual Seclusion'—a place where one can truly feel a profound inner peace.

The majestic halls, the scent of incense, Buddha statues carved directly into the rocks, and ancient cedars create a sense that time has stood still here. Particularly impressive is the main hall, Daxianbao, which houses a 20-meter-tall statue of Shakyamuni, one of the tallest in China.

I loved how the monastery's silence blends with the sounds of nature—the babbling of a stream and the singing of birds. This place is perfect for meditation and reflection, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

📍 Address: Xihu District, Feilai Peak, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China
🕒 Best time to visit: Spring and autumn—mild climate and fewer tourists
💡 Tips: Bring water and comfortable shoes—the terrain is hilly. Purchase incense at the entrance and climb to the stone Buddha carvings.
