Access: Take buses 47A and 47B from Long Bien Bus Terminal for 30-40 minutes.
Sightseeing Spot: Pottery Market
Shopping:
This village produces Bat Trang pottery, a type of pottery widely sold in Hanoi.
It's often included in optional tours, but this time I took a local bus and headed there on my own. It was easy to find, as it's the last stop on bus 47A.
They have a wide variety of items, from gorgeous pottery to everyday tableware.
I was tempted by something. This time, I saved two cups and saucers with floral patterns on the inside. Originally, they were a set of six cups and a teapot, but they only gave me the two cups and saucers.
I made a similar request at a souvenir shop in the city and they refused, but they were more accommodating here. Perhaps it's because they're the manufacturer. I know it's selfish, but I still ask.
I was also attracted to the Vietnamese coffee cups and filters, but gave up on the hassle of carrying them back. There's a wide variety of items at reasonable prices, so if you're not careful, you might end up buying a lot.
