Ton Nga Chang Waterfall is located inside the Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary, about 60 km from Samila Beach or roughly 30 km from Lee Gardens Plaza. The name “Ton Nga Chang” actually means “Elephant’s Tusks” in Thai, and the waterfall gets its name because the stream splits into two parts that look like a pair of tusks.
There’s so much to explore here. You can hang out at the main picnic area, where you’ll get a stunning view of the tall cascading waterfall, or wander downstream to discover smaller falls, rocky riverbanks, and clear pools. The water is icy cold — perfect for cooling off on a hot day.
And here’s the coolest part: the place is full of huge ikan kelah (mahseer fish). They’re everywhere, swimming around your feet! It’s so tempting to try and catch them, but this is a wildlife sanctuary, so fishing is strictly not allowed.
If you’re feeling adventurous, there are trails leading further up to higher tiers of the waterfall. Each level offers a different view, and the higher you go, the more secluded it gets. It’s a great spot for nature lovers — you get lush greenery, the sound of rushing water, and fresh mountain air all in one place.
Just remember to wear proper footwear, because the rocks can get slippery, and keep an eye on your belongings — the local monkeys here are cheeky and not shy about stealing snacks!
