Itsukushima Shrine is located on Miyajima Island in Hiroshima Prefecture and is one of Japan's most famous shrines, registered as a World Heritage Site. Its greatest attraction is the magnificent shrine building, built as if it were floating on the sea, and the bright red torii gate. The scenery, which changes depending on the tide, is truly fantastical and continues to fascinate visitors. Itsukushima Shrine is said to have been founded in the 6th century, and has been worshiped by many people since the Heian period. In particular, it has great historical and cultural value as Taira no Kiyomori remodeled the shrine building into the beautiful Shinden-zukuri style it is today. The architectural style that is one with the sea is rare worldwide, and the sight of the vermilion-painted corridors shining against the blue sea and green mountains shows various beauty depending on the season and time. As you walk through the grounds, you will be enveloped in the quiet sea breeze and solemn air, and you will feel as if your mind is naturally at peace. 🌱
Furthermore, at dusk and early morning, the large torii gates and shrine buildings are enveloped in soft light, creating an even more solemn and romantic atmosphere.
Festivals and gagaku offerings are sometimes held here, making it a place where you can have a valuable experience in touch with Japanese traditions and spiritual culture.
