From the top of Xiaogushan, you can overlook a vast grassland with a sapphire-blue lake, as if a blue gem is embedded in the earth. After descending the mountain and driving forward, you arrive at Wild Duck Lake. This is a habitat for migratory birds; in summer and autumn, they rest here to recuperate and gather energy before heading north to breeding grounds or south to wintering areas.
The scenery of Wild Duck Lake is also quite beautiful. The lake surface is wide and calm, like a mirror of the sky, reflecting the distant Xiaogushan. From this angle, the shape of Xiaogushan is very picturesque, serving as the perfect backdrop for the lake. Near the lakeshore grow hydrophilic plants with reddish hues, forming a red carpet. Although it cannot compare in grandeur to the famous Liaohekou red carpet, its elegance is equally impressive. The red carpet of just the right width adds a bright splash of color among the yellow-green grassland, blue sky, and azure lake, making the scene even more perfect.
Continuing along the tourist road from Wild Duck Lake, you reach the deepest scenic spot in Wulanbutong — Wucai Mountain. This is a bun-shaped small mountain with gentle slopes and dense forests. In late autumn, the leaves turn yellow and red, creating a colorful forest, hence the name Wucai Mountain. When we visited during the Mid-Autumn Festival, Wucai Mountain had not yet reached its peak beauty, but its scenery was already captivating.
It is worth mentioning that Wucai Mountain is very close to Saihanba National Forest Park. In fact, the other side of the mountain is the colorful viewing platform of Saihanba National Forest Park. If in the future the two major scenic areas can connect their tourist roads to form a super scenic loop, it would greatly enhance the travel experience.
