Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park - we should never forget

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is a 120,000 sqm park in the middle of a metropolitan area. It stands out in stark contrast to the surrounding buildings, and is also a stark reminder of the impacts of an atomic bomb.

The key attractions in the Park include the A-Bomb Dome, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was a former government building that remained standing after the A-bomb was dropped on the city.

The Peace Memorial Museum is not to be missed as well. The admission fee is 200 yen and I recommend you get a ticket online beforehand to avoid the queue. The museum exhibits are a poignant reminder of the impacts of the A-bomb on Japan for a long long time, up till today. However, for those expecting a more comprehensive view of why the A-bomb was dropped, or a recounting of some of the Japanese’s own actions during WWII, they would be disappointed as this exhibition is purely about the A-bomb and Hiroshima.
