In 1945, Hiroshima was the first in the world to be damaged by an atomic bomb. It opened in 1955 with the aim of conveying the tragedy to people around the world and contributing to the abolition of nuclear weapons and the realisation of permanent peace in the world.
The museum is located in the "Peace Memorial Park", which is well known for the "Atomic Bomb Dome", and consists of the main building and the east building. In the main building, the relics of the atomic bomb victims and photos showing the disaster of the atomic bomb victims are on display. The exhibition focussing on the damage situation of each atomic bomb victim is impressive. Many of the exhibits have been severely damaged due to the explosion, and clothing is replaced every year to prevent deterioration due to long-term exhibition.
