Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

#WesternJapan
The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, which opened in 1955, was renovated and opened as the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum (East Building) in June 1994.
Renovation work began in March 2014, and the museum reopened in April 2017.
The East Building plays a supporting role to the main building, and was designed with a more modest design. The East Building is connected to the main building by a corridor, and is symmetrical with the International Conference Hall, with the main building at the center. Compared to the main building, which acts as a gate, the East Building is designed to be a somewhat heavy structure, with stone-clad pillars and beams on the ground and surrounded by free-standing walls with the same stone cladding.
