The goal of this trip to Hiroshima is to go to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, take a look at the World Heritage "Atomic Bomb Dome (Atomic Bomb Dome)" and visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. I originally wanted to visit Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. However, I could only arrange one day to go to Hiroshima during this trip. At the same time, I had to rush to catch the sights, so I had to go to Itsukushima Shrine next time (I also wanted to go there). Okuno Island, also known as "Rabbit Island").
In the morning, take the Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima, which takes about 1.5 hours. After getting off the train, you need to take a streetcar (Hiroshima Electric Railway) and get off at "Atomic Bomb Dome".
Get off at "Atomic Bomb Dome". Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is nearby. As soon as you enter the park, you can see the Atomic Bomb Dome. There are many information boards in the park explaining different historical materials and origins. On that day, we also saw a tour guide introducing it to Japanese tourists.
There are many buildings in the park that symbolize peace or commemorate the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. I had seen many pictures online before visiting, but it felt different when I saw it in person. I personally think it is worth spending time to visit this park.
Then we visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. The entrance fee was 200 yen. It took about 3 hours to see the entire museum. A large number of items from that era are on display, and the stories behind each item are also listed. The atmosphere in the museum was serious. Many Japanese people felt sad when viewing the exhibits. Some older Japanese people even cried while looking at the exhibits.
(Some exhibits may frighten children, so parents should be careful if they plan to take their children to visit)
