Hiroshima was the most meaningful and memorable city during my trip to Japan. It is a place of painful history, but it also talks about peace and hope, so the trip became a time of deep reflection rather than simple sightseeing.
The first stop was the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. In front of the Atomic Bomb Dome, which still retains the scars of war, my steps naturally slowed down, and at the Peace Memorial Museum, records and artifacts from that time were on display, allowing me to feel the horrors of war and the preciousness of peace at the same time. The numerous paper cranes and peace bells placed in the park conveyed the hope that such a tragedy would never happen again.
Then, I took a boat to Miyajima. The red torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, which seemed to float on the sea, was truly spectacular, and the scenery that changed with the high and low tides was mystical. Deer roamed freely around the shrine, adding to its quiet charm.
I couldn't miss Hiroshima's gourmet food either. The Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, baked in layers, was hearty and flavorful, and the seasonal Hiroshima oyster dish was fresh and tender, which was really satisfying.
Finally, I toured Hiroshima Castle. Although it was a restored building, the surrounding garden and the quiet atmosphere were nice, and the exhibition inside allowed me to learn about Hiroshima's other history and culture.
Hiroshima is a city that remembers the past and conveys peace, and it is a travel destination where nature, tradition, and gourmet food come together. It was a place that gave me a special experience that stayed in my mind for a long time after my trip.
