Just got back from an unforgettable 6-day family trip in Tasmania (March 2026) and I had to share this experience! It was our first time exploring this part of Australia, and everything — from the scenery to the fresh seafood and the cool weather — was perfect! Here’s our quick itinerary and some real tips if you’re planning a similar trip:
📍Hobart (2 nights)
• Stayed in a cozy 2-bedroom apartment with a kitchen (a lifesaver for families!)
• Don’t miss Salamanca Market (Saturdays only!) – great local crafts and food
• Mount Wellington – the view is WOW! Bring a windbreaker, it’s cold up there 🥶
📍Freycinet / Coles Bay (2 nights)
• The drive from Hobart is stunning — stop by Spiky Bridge or local oyster farms
• Wineglass Bay Lookout hike was manageable even with kids, and so worth it!
• Stayed near the beach and woke up to wallabies hopping around
📍Bicheno (1 night)
• Joined the Penguin Tour – must-do! The kids were over the moon 🐧
• Bicheno Blowhole was a surprise highlight
🚗 We rented a car from Hobart and returned it at Launceston Airport. Super convenient and gave us full flexibility. Roads were easy to drive.
🍴Best meal? Freycinet Marine Farm – freshest oysters ever! And affordable too.
🌤️ Weather in March was perfect: cool, around 14–20°C. Light layers were enough in the day, and jackets at night.
💰Overall: Super family-friendly, not too touristy, and 100% worth it!

✅ Tips:
• Rent accommodations with kitchens to save on meals
• Book your penguin tour and car in advance (March can be busy!)
• Tasmania weather can change fast — pack layers
• Keep your camera ready — the scenery is stunning everywhere
If you’re still deciding on your next destination, Tasmania is a gem 💎— especially if you love nature, cool weather, and peaceful vibes.
Hope this helps you plan better! Let me know if you want my full itinerary or cost breakdown 💬💕
