A small rural village with a vast sea of sunflowers!
Hokuryu Town in Hokkaido is a tiny village with a population of only about 1,700. However, every summer, approximately 2 million sunflowers bloom across the hillsides, creating a spectacular and breathtaking sight. This annual phenomenon attracts numerous tourists who come to capture the beauty in photographs. As a result, sunflowers have become a symbol of vitality for the local residents and the representative flower of Hokuryu Town.
From mid-July to mid-August each year, Hokuryu Town hosts the Sunflower Festival. Under sunny skies, the sunflowers gleam brightly, forming a vast golden expanse that is both magnificent and picturesque. The open surroundings make it an ideal spot for photography.
How to get there: Take a bus from JR Takikawa Station for about 27 minutes, alight at the "Hokuryu Town Hall" stop, and then walk for 16 minutes.
