Kowloon Walled City Park has always been popular among Hong Kong residents and overseas tourists. Elements organizes free tours every day, with dedicated staff to lead visitors to visit the original special attractions. Each tour takes about 45 minutes and can accommodate 10 to 30 people.
Kowloon Walled City Park is designed in the style of Jiangnan gardens from the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The entire park is mainly divided into eight scenic areas, namely, Government House Reminiscences of the Past, South Gate Nostalgia, Eight Paths with Different Interests, Four Seasons with the Same Fragrance, Zodiac Shadows, Chess Competition, Lion Peeping into the Garden and Guibi Half Pavilion.
There is an exhibition in the Yamen that introduces the history of the walled city and the construction process of the park, and displays some cultural relics excavated within the walled city. Guibi Stone is a Taihu stone peak originating from Changxing, Anhui. It gets its name because its texture is similar to ancient jade. There is a Kuixing Half Pavilion built next to the Guibi Stone. Kuixing is one of the five Wenchang Emperors and is said to be the deity who protects scholars in passing imperial examinations.
The twelve zodiac animal portraits displayed in Tongle Garden are carved from blue-white stone and look lifelike. The Eight Paths are small paths that run through different scenic areas of the park, including the Pine Path, Magnolia Path, Crape Myrtle Path, Bamboo Path, Red Leaf Path, Fragrant Flower Path, Pomegranate Flower Path and Banana Leaf Path. Visitors can not only go to various scenic spots along the eight paths, but also appreciate the plants planted along the paths.
In addition to group sessions for group booking, group sessions are also arranged for park visitors to sign up on the spot. The entire tour was in Cantonese and the guide’s explanations were very detailed, which definitely enhanced the enjoyment of appreciating the original scenery.
