The Time Ball Tower is an iconic feature of 1881 Heritage, a historic site located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Originally constructed in 1884 as part of the Marine Police Headquarters, the tower was equipped with a time ball mechanism used by mariners to synchronize their chronometers. Each day at 1 p.m., the ball would drop, providing a visual signal for ships anchored in the harbor to accurately set their timepieces.
Today, the Time Ball Tower stands as a reminder of Hong Kong’s rich maritime heritage and colonial past. Although the time ball mechanism is no longer operational, the tower remains a popular attraction, admired for both its historical significance and architectural charm.
