Hong Kong|The Vast Hidden Grassland in May

This is one of my favorite spots in Hong Kong.

Why? It’s definitely because there are few people, the scenery is beautiful, it’s unspoiled, and visitors treat the place gently.

Sham Chung Grassland was originally planned to be developed into a golf course, with turf planted, but the plan was later canceled, leaving a large open grassland.

Sham Chung Grassland is private land, and camping on the grass is not allowed.
If you want to lie down carefree on the grass or have a picnic, you can bring a picnic mat, snacks, and drinks to enjoy a picnic on the grass🧺.

🌟🌟🌟
It’s recommended to ask the nearby convenience store before picnicking to respect the private property.

There is a convenience store at Sham Chung Grassland for supplies, but it only operates on weekends and public holidays. They even have farm-fresh vegetables! Many people take a boat here in the morning during holidays, have lunch, and then take the boat back, spending a relaxing morning here😌.

🌱🌱🌱
There are several ways to get to Sham Chung:
1: Hike in, take a boat out.
2: Take a boat in, take a boat out. (Just note that boat schedules are infrequent.)
3: Take a boat in, hike out.

There are many different hiking routes to choose from.

🚶🚶🚶
Route 1: Shui Long Wo — Yung Shue O — Sham Chung — (Take a boat from Sham Chung Pier to Ma Liu Shui Pier to leave)

🚌 Shui Long Wo Transportation:
Take bus 99 (Sai Kung — Hang On direction) or 299X (Sai Kung — Sha Tin City Centre direction) from Sai Kung to the "Shui Long Wo" stop. Cross the road and walk towards Sai Kung to the Yung Shue O sign, then hike through Yung Shue O village to "Sham Chung."
⌛️ Takes about 2-2.5 hours.
🌟 Most of this section is along roads with vehicle traffic, so be especially careful and try to walk on the side.

(The reverse direction also gets off at the "Shui Long Wo" stop, then walk straight to the Yung Shue O sign and hike through Yung Shue O village to "Sham Chung.")

🚶🚶🚶
Route 2: Pak Sha O — Sham Chung — (Take a boat from Sham Chung Pier to Ma Liu Shui Pier to leave)

🚐 Pak Sha O Transportation:
From Sai Kung Bus Terminus, take green minibus No. 7 (Sai Kung to Hoi Ha), get off at "Pak Sha O" stop. You will see the sign to Sham Chung right after getting off.
⌛️ Takes 1.5-2 hours.

🚢 Sham Chung Pier — Ma Liu Shui Pier Boat Schedule:

Weekdays: Monday to Friday
Ma Liu Shui Pier departure: 08:30, 15:00
Sham Chung Pier departure: 11:55, 18:15

⚠️⚠️⚠️
Hiking is physically demanding, so wear comfortable shoes, quick-dry clothes, and bring enough water and snacks.

Protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility. Take your trash with you. The beautiful nature depends on you. 😊
