Tips for Smooth Travel in Hong Kong – Transportation Edition

Hong Kong 🇭🇰 is about a 5-hour flight from Tokyo and round-trip tickets cost around 25,000 yen.
This vibrant city offers stunning million-dollar night views and delicious food that suits Japanese tastes perfectly 🔥
With a well-developed transportation network including trains, buses, and taxis, be sure to check the following in advance to ensure smooth travel!

✅✅ Be sure to get an Octopus Card ✅✅
First, the essential item for using public transportation is the "Octopus Card" (similar to Suica in Japan!).
You can use buses and trains without it, but just like in Japan, having one allows for smooth gate access. Plus, the Octopus Card can now be used for payments at many restaurants and shops.

**How to get it**
You can buy an Octopus Card at the airport station, ticket gates, or around the city, but the best way is to download the app beforehand!
By downloading the app, you can top up your card with a credit card in advance ☝️ You won’t have to wait in line to buy it on the day, and you can start using it immediately without any hassle on site.

Additionally, any remaining balance can be refunded through the app, with the refund going back to the credit card used for the top-up (if you apply for a refund within 90 days, there is an 11 HKD fee, but no fee if it’s after 90 days).
Note that refunds cannot be processed at service counters if you use the app ⚠️
It takes a little time, but since refunds are possible, it’s safe to charge a bit extra even if you’re unsure how much you’ll spend locally.

◼️ Recommended way to travel between the airport and city
My top recommendation is the cost-effective bus! If you have time, don’t have too much luggage, and want to save money, take the bus without hesitation. (There is space for suitcases on the bus.)
Depending on traffic and location, it takes about an hour to get to the city.
Also, the iconic double-decker buses of Hong Kong offer a great view of the city during your ride ☝️

Hong Kong Airport Bus Stop
• The bus stop is very easy to find and close by. After exiting the airport, follow the signs that say "To city" (see photo 5), then when you see the sign in photo 6, turn right. You’ll find a large bus terminal guide as shown in photo 7. From there, head to the platform for your bus number.
This walk takes about 3 to 5 minutes.
Buses run every 10-15 minutes depending on the time and destination, so you won’t have to wait long.
