Island Shangri-La 🇭🇰 opened in 1991 and has a history of over thirty years. It was later renovated by the famous French designer 👩🎨 Tristan Auer, who oversaw the refurbishment of the hotel 🏨 suites, luxury penthouses, and some guest rooms. After the renovation, I feel that Island Shangri-La has become a highly recommended 👍 hotel to stay at when visiting Hong Kong. It retains the classical charm 🥰 of the old Shangri-La while ensuring the rooms are not too old to affect the stay experience ⭐️.
📍 Location: The hotel 🏨 is very conveniently located. The lobby elevator 🛗 goes directly to the popular shopping area 🚶➡️ of Pacific Place, whose basement houses the Admiralty MTR station 🚇. Taking the MTR from here makes it very convenient to reach Tsim Sha Tsui, Sai Ying Pun, Citygate Outlets, and even Disneyland 😍. Just across the street from the hotel is Hong Kong Park 🌸, which has a rich variety of plants 🌳 and serves as an urban 🌆 oxygen bar, perfect for morning or post-meal walks 🚶. Walking through Hong Kong 🇭🇰 Park, it takes about 10 minutes on foot to reach the Peak Tram station ⛰️ (you can also walk up the hill). Buying a round-trip ticket to the Peak and experiencing the real "mountain" tram ride to enjoy the view 🌸 at the top is a great experience 👍.
🍽️ Restaurants: The hotel offers many dining options 🍴, whether it’s Summer Palace, one of Jin Yong’s favorite dining halls, or the Michelin one-star French restaurant Petrus with a sea view 🌊 (Petrus is also one of the hotel 🏨 breakfast 🥞 restaurants, where you can enjoy a sea view breakfast 🍳). If you want Fujian cuisine (Ming Yue), steak 🥩 (Lobster Bar), or Japanese food 🍱 (Tanman), there are plenty of choices 👍. Interestingly, one of the chefs 🧑🍳 from a favorite restaurant I visited in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 previously trained at Petrus, a dreamy collaboration 🤩.
🛏️ Rooms: The bed 🛏️ is very comfortable. What I like most is actually the pantry in the room, where every day I would stand and brew 🫖 probiotics for my aunt and me. After leaving Hong Kong, I even found myself reluctant to part with the casual and relaxed feeling this little corner brought 💔😌.
🍷 Executive Lounge: On the first night, we hadn’t had dinner 🍲 yet, and the lounge 🍷 last entry time was 7:30 pm, so we decided to have dinner there. Besides some simple buffet cold dishes and desserts 🍮 and regular drinks 🍷, you could also order dim sum from the staff 💁♀️. The selection was limited to shrimp dumplings 🍤 and siu mai, but it was very filling 😋.
