- Wat Thinakorn Nimit was established in 1851. It is believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period, but it fell into disrepair and became deserted. The temple excavated the brick foundations of the old ordination hall, dating back to the Ayutthaya period. Later, Prince Thinakorn undertook a major renovation, effectively rebuilding the temple. The temple was renamed Wat Bang Duan, as the area near the Duan canal terminates at the temple grounds. However, locals often referred to the area as Bang, hence the name "Bang Duan."
- Later, during the reign of Phra Thep Methee (Bunnag Chinnavaso, Ph.D. 9), when he held the ecclesiastical title of Phra Si Wisutthimethi, he proposed changing the name to "Wat Thinakorn Nimit," citing Prince Thinakorn's involvement in the construction of the temple during the visit to Wat Chaloem Phrakiat Worawihan.
