Tuen Mun Off-the-Beaten-Path Check-in Route

Only know to visit Victoria Harbour and Disneyland when coming to Hong Kong? Castle Peak in Tuen Mun District is definitely an underrated treasure! As a favorite local hidden hiking route, Castle Peak not only offers stunning scenery but is also free of charge. Today, I’ll share my tips to avoid pitfalls + the ultimate way to enjoy it~

🚶‍♀️Must-Visit Route
1️⃣ Castle Peak Monastery
📍8 Castle Peak Road, Castle Peak Bay, Tuen Mun
⏰9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
One of Hong Kong’s three major ancient temples! A millennium-old temple built during the Tang Dynasty, with red walls and green tiles perfect for photos. Don’t forget to check in at the "Fairy Rock" photo spot at the back mountain. Recommended to come in the morning when it’s less crowded and you can hear the morning bell.

2️⃣ Castle Peak Summit
⏰Open all day (recommended hiking time 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM)
Start from the trail behind the monastery, it takes about 1.5 hours to reach the summit! On the way, you’ll pass the stunning "Arhat Rock" stone formation. From the top, enjoy a 360° view overlooking Tuen Mun and Lingdingyang. On a clear day, you can even see the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge!

⚠️Must-Read Tips to Avoid Pitfalls
➭ Never wear slippers! Some sections have slopes up to 45°, wear non-slip sports shoes
➭ No water sold at the summit, remember to stock up at the convenience store next to the monastery
➭ Don’t hike after 4 PM, you might not get down before dark
➭ Weekends are crowded, it’s better to visit on weekday mornings

👉 Shenzhen Bay Port: Take B3X bus to Tuen Mun city center, then transfer to 43B minibus
