One morning in Hong Kong, as soon as the Bakehouse opened its doors, the fragrant allure of egg tarts tickled my nose. The Sourdough Egg Tart in particular—the moment the soft, silky custard melted into the crispy crust, I knew I'd made the right choice.
To ensure a chance at this special treat, I recommend visiting early in the morning. Due to its popularity, lines can be long in the morning, and the tarts can sell out quickly—but even the moment I stood in line was exciting.
While Bakehouse has several locations throughout Hong Kong,
only the Wan Chai branch (Cheers Branch) on Hong Kong Island has a cafe space. It opens at 8:00 AM, and its bakery menu is served until 9:00 PM.
The Central, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Stanley, Tian Chung, and Sha Tin branches are takeout-only, but are all open daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM (Stanley until 6:00 PM, Sha Tin is the exception; operating hours are slightly different as of 2025).
The Wan Chai branch, in particular, offers warm egg tarts on the spot, making it a perfect choice for enjoying brunch alongside the menu.
Recommended Points
• Wan Chai Branch: Enjoy a leisurely meal in a spacious setting.
• Takeout Branches: Lines move quickly in Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay, etc.
• Egg Tart Price: Approximately HK$12.50 per piece (Suru Dough version)
