A sacred pause in Old Hong Kong at Man Mo Temple 🏮✨
Step into the mystical energy of Man Mo Temple, a storied spot where students, professionals, and locals come to seek wisdom and fortune from the God of Literature (Man) and God of War (Mo). This beautiful heritage temple, decked with swirling incense, gives off an otherworldly vibe, perfect for a quiet moment or making a wish for your studies or work!
Start your visit by entering Man Mo Temple at 124-130 Hollywood Rd, Sheung Wan—open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM. Begin at the main altar where you’ll pay respects to Man (the god of learning, ideal for exam prayers!) and Mo (the god of justice and career). Don't forget: each altar requires a set number of joss sticks (ธูป)—usually 3 per deity; light, bow three times, and give your wish. If time allows, explore the adjacent temples in this complex for a full blessing circuit.
Must-do: Soak in the sight and scent of spiraling incense hung overhead—absolutely insta-worthy with the sunlight streaming through! Capture a shot by the main gates for a classic Hong Kong street scene.
Visiting tip: Weekdays are best for a peaceful visit. Respect the temple rules—no flash photography, and dress modestly. Bringing a small donation or buying incense on-site helps maintain this precious space.
Precautions: The small halls can get smoky—those sensitive may want a mask. Keep valuables close, as the area attracts lots of tourists.
