[Taroko National Park: Visit and Present Status]

[Taroko National Park Visit Report and Current Status]

🏔️I visited Taroko National Park in 2018 on a day tour.
Hualien County is 2.5 hours from Taipei. The steep rock walls with marble layers and clear river water were impressive.
Since the earthquake in April 2024, the traditional hiking trails in Taroko National Park have been closed. To ensure safety, we recommend checking the official website of Taroko National Park and booking future tours when the area is restored. Suitable shoes and clothing for hiking, and a helmet is required to go through the caves.

Austronesian Festival
"This is an international event for Taiwan's indigenous peoples, planned to develop and inherit the traditional culture of the six indigenous peoples living in Hualien (Ami, Taroko, Seediq, Bunun, Sakizaya, and Qubalan), and has already attracted many people from home and abroad."
🕰️Opening hours: July 18th (Fri) - July 20th (Sun)
📍Location: The grassland next to Dexing Sports Ground, Hualien County

From the Taroko National Park website
"The area around Taroko National Park has suffered severe damage from earthquakes and typhoons from Taroko Gate to Tianxiang (184.5km Taroko Gate - 167.4km Tianxiang section), and is not suitable for travel. Currently, the scenic spots and promenades are not open to the public. The risk of rockfall and landslides remains high along Provincial Highway 8, so if you need to use it, please be sure to assess the risk and take safety precautions. Taiwan Tourist Shuttle 310 (Tongliang Company) currently operates from Hualien Bus Terminal to Taroko Visitor Center (terminus) via Qixingtan. Taroko Bus 302 only operates between Xincheng Station and Taroko Visitor Center. Due to severe damage to roads in the canyon area caused by the earthquake, local buses have discontinued operation between Taroko Visitor Center and Tianxiang. Following the 0403 earthquake, at the suggestion of the Hualien County Government, the 302 Tourist Bus will add the "302A Xincheng Old Town Circular Route" to revitalize the surrounding shopping districts from August 15, 2024, and will operate the northbound route (08:10-15:50) and the southbound route (08:50-15:10) at a rate of one bus per hour. Both routes depart and arrive at Xincheng Station, the northbound route passes through Xincheng Old Town, and the southbound route passes through Sanzhan. As a new tourist spot, it not only plays a part in revitalizing the old town of Xincheng, but is also used as a means of transportation for local residents. Don't miss the SUP (stand-up paddle board) at the foot of Hualien Qingshui Cliff.'

Hualien County in 2025
💞Reasons for recommendation: Tourism in Hualien County that does not rely on Taroko National Park has begun to flourish. 'Theme park "Farglory Ocean Park", the seaside scenic spot "Qixingtan", the "Dongdamen Night Market" in the city, etc.' 'Xincheng in the town at the gateway to Taroko Gorge'
There are ingenious ideas such as hot springs, such as the "Hualien Cultural Creative Industry Park" where you can enjoy Taiwan's original art and culture while making use of Japanese-style buildings built during the Japanese colonial period.

It is a good idea to plan these things on your trip to Taiwan to support the local economy of Hualien County.
