The breathtaking attractions of Taroko National Park - Buluowan Recreation Area - Xiulin Township, Hualien County

#AugustGoodPlaces2025
The Buluowan Recreation Area, located in Xiulin Township, Hualien County, Taiwan, is part of Taroko National Park. Originally inhabited by the Taroko people, Buluowan means "a place for tracking prey" in their language. Buluowan is divided into the Upper and Lower Terraces, with a height difference of approximately 30 meters. The Upper Terrace includes accommodations and dining at the "Mountain Moon Village," while the Lower Terrace includes a management station, an amphitheater, a mountain folk arts exhibition hall, a visitor center, and a parking lot. At the bend in the mountain road before entering the Buluowan Recreation Area, a large stone sculpture of a Taroko warrior stands tall on the hillside, seemingly guarding the land. The Buluowan Suspension Bridge (also known as the Mountain Moon Suspension Bridge) within the recreation area is a must-see for visitors, offering breathtaking views of the mountains on both sides of the valley. The Lower Terrace, with its marble sculptures and expansive views, is a prime spot for stretching and admiring the beautiful mountain forest. Due to severe damage from the 2004 Hualien earthquake, the Buluowan Recreation Area is currently closed to the public. Emergency repairs are underway on the upper and lower terraces of Buluowan. We hope to restore the area to a safe state within a short period of time, allowing visitors to once again enjoy the enchanting and spectacular scenery of Buluowan.
