Tucked away in the tranquil village of Fēngshān (Shoufeng Township), Hualien County, the Hualien Archaeological Museum occupies a repurposed market building near one of Taiwan’s major prehistoric jade-workshop zones. The museum officially opened in 2021, providing a dedicated space to preserve and present the area’s rich prehistoric culture.
Inside the museum, the exhibitions are thoughtfully arranged into three key sections: “Exploring the World of Archaeology”, “Seeing Through the Prehistory of Hualien”, and “Inspiration from the Past”. Visitors encounter real and replicated artifacts — jade ornaments, stone tools, pottery fragments — plus interactive features like a sandbox for simulated excavations and multimedia displays. Children and adults alike are invited to step into the role of archaeologists.
Whether you’re fascinated by ancient human ingenuity, curious about Taiwan’s jade-trade history, or seeking a meaningful educational stop in Hualien, the museum offers a calm and engaging experience. It reminds us that even in modern landscapes, the whispers of human history still echo quietly beneath the surface.
