A perfect place to start your journey in Hirosaki, Aomori, is JR Hirosaki Station. This station is the transportation hub of the Tsugaru region, connecting the JR Ou Main Line, Gono Line, and Konan Railway Konan Line. It's a key stop for the Tsugau Limited Express and the Risotto Shirakami sightseeing train. The station features a bridge-style structure, with a second-floor entrance connecting the east-west free passage. Inside, visitors can enjoy apple-themed installations and Tsugaru-style art. The first-floor tourist information center and the Appliers shopping mall offer a wide selection of shopping, dining, and souvenirs, making it a perfect stopover for travelers.
The station building's exterior is unassuming, but upon exiting the east exit, you'll notice the striking Hirosaki Nebuta lantern, a symbol of Hirosaki City's annual summer Nebuta Festival. While not as massive as the Nebuta lanterns in Aomori City, it's still a popular photo spot for visitors arriving at the station.
The Konan Bus Terminal near the station offers buses to Hirosaki Park, Apple Park, and Shirakami-Sanchi, as well as direct night buses to Aomori Airport, Tokyo, and Shinjuku. The station features the Tsugaru-style rest area "Tsugaru Launchi" and STATION WORK co-working spaces, making the journey both comfortable and immersive in local culture. There's even a giant apple installation in front of the station, symbolizing the city's pride as Japan's leading apple producer.
Hirosaki Station connects you to cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, snowy landscapes, and historic streets. From here, you can experience the four seasons of Tsugaru.
