The night scene of Nánxún Ancient Town is a completely different picturesque scene from the daytime. When the sun sets and the tourists gradually disperse, Nánxún truly reveals its tranquil, graceful, and slightly splendid soul.
The ancient riverside houses, covered corridors, and horse-head walls are carefully outlined by warm yellow lights, reflected on the ink-black water surface. The light and shadow are no longer as straightforward as during the day but become soft and profound, magnifying the beauty of the architectural lines to the fullest.
At this moment, taking a sampan is the best way to experience the night view. The oars break the reflections on the water, accompanied by the rhythmic sound of the boatman’s calls, passing through one bridge arch after another, as if traveling through a time tunnel woven with light and shadow. The occasional shouts or explanations from the boatman add a lively touch.
Red lanterns hanging in front of every household light up one after another, their reflections rippling in the water like flowing bands of light, giving the ancient town a vibrant life.
The tranquility of East Street, the poetic atmosphere of Baijian Building, the lights of Xiaolian Manor, and the soft music from shops inject a modern, lazy vibe into the ancient town.
Nánxún by day belongs to tourists, bustling and crowded. At night, Nánxún feels more like "local Nánxún," returning the tranquility and life it should have.
The night of Nánxún is not a vivid carnival but a cup of mellow aged wine to be savored slowly. It puts away the grandeur of the "Jiangnan Mansion" during the day and instead shows the gentle charm of a "modest and refined beauty," forming a flowing, light-and-shadow interwoven ink painting of Jiangnan waters.
