The Courage That Defended the Nation: The Battle of Gwangseongbo

The exhibition on the Battle of Gwangseongbo vividly conveys the steadfast spirit of resistance of the Joseon Dynasty. This battle, led by General Eo Jae-yeon during the 1871 Shinmiyangyo (U.S. expedition to Korea), saw the Joseon forces fiercely resist the American fleet. The exhibition hall faithfully recreates the intensity of that day, featuring life-sized replicas of cannons, matchlock guns, and soldiers' armor used during the battle, allowing visitors to feel the tension of the conflict. A large battle map depicting the events of the time is displayed on the walls, immersing visitors as if they were standing in the midst of the battlefield. Additionally, one section of the exhibition showcases General Eo Jae-yeon's calligraphy and related historical materials, reminding visitors of Joseon's spirit of independence. Visiting with children offers a natural opportunity to learn not only about the pain of war but also the significance of courage in defending one's homeland. This is a must-see exhibition in Ganghwa that brings history to life.
