Visiting the Shyok War Memorial was a really moving stop on the way through the valley. It’s not a big or crowded place, but it carries a lot of weight. The memorial is dedicated to the soldiers who served and lost their lives in the region, and standing there, surrounded by the stark mountains and the river nearby, you really feel the sense of how tough and remote this area is.

The memorial itself is simple and well kept, with plaques and inscriptions that tell the story of the battles fought here. What struck me most was the contrast — such a quiet, beautiful setting holding memories of something so difficult and harsh. Spending a bit of time there felt important, just to acknowledge that history before continuing the journey through the valley.
