🏞️ Review of Pangong Lake, Leh, Ladakh, India
"A dreamy blue lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world."
📍 Location:
Pangong Lake, also known as Pangong Tso, is located approximately 160 km east of Leh. The lake stretches for over 134 km and spans both India and China (approximately 60% of the lake is on the Chinese side).
⸻
💙 Indescribable beauty
• The color of the lake's water changes throughout the day – deep blue, clear blue, turquoise, and deep blue, depending on the light and angle of view.
• Surrounded by the Himalayas, the crystal-clear water contrasts.
• Quiet, peaceful, and surreal, like being in another world.
⸻
🚗 Getting there
• The journey from Leh takes approximately 5-6 hours via high, winding mountain roads.
• Some roads can be rough and snowy. A 4WD vehicle or a chartered car with a skilled driver is recommended.
• Early departure is recommended. And be prepared for the cold weather, even in summer.
⸻
🏕️ Lake Experience
• There are several overnight campsites, especially around Spangmik.
• Wake up to the sunrise over the water – a breathtaking sight.
• You can stroll along the lake, sit quietly, soak in the atmosphere, or take beautiful photos all day long.
• It's a popular photo spot from the Indian film "3 Idiots," which made the lake famous.
⸻
⚠️ Things to Know
• No mobile signal or internet – prepare to disconnect from the outside world.
• Temperatures are very low at night, even in summer. Bring a warm jacket.
• The air is thin and at an altitude of 4,300 meters, be careful of altitude sickness (AMS).
• There are no fancy restaurants – most offer simple local food or camp-style meals.
