Strolling around Wakamatsu, Kitakyushu City.
I arrived in Wakamatsu by Wakato Ferry, and the first thing I saw was the Ueno Kaiun Building.
I noticed a sign with the words "Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property" and an explanation,
so I stepped inside.
The building appeared to house several tenants, including cafes and studios.
This historic building was constructed in 1913 (Taisho 2).
It had an open atrium extending from the second to third floor.
As the explanation said,
there was stained glass on the lattice ceiling and decorative handrails.
The scenery felt like I'd traveled back in time.
The hallways and staircases were also lovely.
One thing to note:
This building allows "personal photography within the scope of hobby."
Unauthorized photo sessions are prohibited.
Model photography and photo sessions on the premises without permission are prohibited.
However, paid photo shoots
start at 11,000 yen per day (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM). Please also check before visiting for short periods.
As this is a magnificent historic building,
we recommend enjoying it quietly and within your personal confines.
