Kyoto | Sailing with Seagulls and Hawks in Ine Bay

Visiting Ine Town in northern Kyoto and taking a sightseeing boat out to sea was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my trip. The small boat glided across the blue waters, flanked by rows of traditional boat houses. These wooden seaside dwellings are a unique feature of Ine, resembling a moving ancient painting. As the boat left the harbor, seagulls immediately gathered and flew around, their agile movements blending with the sea breeze to create a lively scene. Visitors can toss shrimp-flavored crackers by hand and watch as seagulls and hawks dive mid-air to catch the treats—a thrilling and entertaining sight.

The sea sparkled under the sunlight, reflecting the distant mountains and boat houses, as if time had stood still. This journey was not just a sightseeing trip but a chance to truly experience the harmonious coexistence of Ine's ocean and culture.
