Inner Mongolia Travel Guide
1. Preparation
- Documents: ID card, student ID, and other relevant documents.
- Clothing: Inner Mongolia has a large temperature difference between day and night, so bring long-sleeved jackets and long pants. It's best to bring a thick coat in summer. If you plan to visit the desert, bring sun protection clothing and a scarf.
- Daily necessities: Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, moisturizing skincare products, and toiletries.
2. Transportation
- Flights: Inner Mongolia has several airports, such as Hohhot Baita International Airport and Hulunbuir Dongshan International Airport. Choose according to your itinerary.
- Trains: The railway network is well-developed, and you can take a train to major cities and stations near scenic spots.
3. Food Recommendations
- Shouba Meat: Bone-in lamb is cut into pieces and boiled in a large pot. When eating, the cooked lamb is cut off and dipped in chive flower sauce, garlic paste, and other condiments. It's fresh and tender.
- Roasted Whole Lamb: The skin is golden and crispy, and the meat is tender and juicy. It's a traditional dish in Inner Mongolia.
- Milk Tea: A traditional Mongolian drink made by boiling brick tea and adding fresh cow or sheep milk, butter, and fried rice. It's nutritious.
- Milk Skin: Made from a mixture of fat and milk protein floating on cow or sheep milk. It's sweet and delicious.
4. Attractions
- Hulunbuir Grassland: You can rent a car in Hailar to explore. On the grassland, you can ride horses, watch wrestling and horse racing performances, and stay in a yurt to experience grassland life.
- Erguna Wetland: Known as the "No. 1 Wetland in Asia," it has magnificent scenery. Walk along the boardwalk and enjoy the intertwined wetlands, rivers, and trees.
- Arxan National Forest Park: It has attractions such as Tianchi and Shitanglin. In autumn, the colorful forest looks like an oil painting. You can drive or take a sightseeing bus to explore.
- Xiangshawan: Located in Ordos, it offers various exciting desert activities, such as sand sliding and desert motorcycling. You can also ride a camel and enjoy the desert scenery.
