The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, which you will probably visit first on your Istanbul itinerary, is also known as the Blue Mosque. It is a grand mosque that forms a pair with the nearby Hagia Sophia and is always crowded with people trying to enter. There is also a space displaying sarcophagi similar to the sultans' tombs, which is worth seeing. The adjacent market is even more exciting if you go while listening to Ketelbey's 'In a Persian Market'. Highly recommended!!!
