[Türkiye/Istanbul] Underground Palace: Basilica Cistern

The Basilica Cistern is an underground reservoir built in the 6th century in the old city of Istanbul. It was built by order of Emperor Justinian I during the Eastern Roman Empire and supplied water to Constantinople at that time.

The mysterious underground space with 336 stone pillars still attracts many tourists today. It is an impressive place with a dark and quiet atmosphere and unique architecture that gives a sense of history.

Location: Located in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul's old town, about a 5-minute walk from Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque.

There is a lot of water underground, and the floors are slippery, so be careful where you step.
・Dim environment
The lighting is subdued, so use the handrails when walking and proceed carefully.
