A day exploring art in Istanbul

While Istanbul has many impressive buildings, it also has a strong arts scene as well. The National Museum of Painting and the Pera Museum stood out to us as outstanding places to visit if you are interested in art. The National Museum of Painting, which used to be part of the palace grounds, was particularly impressive for its historic staircases and view over the Bosphorus Strait. With a mix of modern and late-Ottoman art, it was intriguing to see how Turkish artists mixed European and local painting traditions to depict the landscapes and history of their country. The museum buildings themselves were also stunning pieces of architecture and definitely worth a look! Wait times for tickets/entry were short and the staff were helpful and kind.
