✈️ Half-Day Layover in Istanbul: 6 Hours of Enchanting Two Continents
This trip was created because I only had half a day to layover in Istanbul. At first, I was hesitant about leaving the airport, but after planning, I thought, "Wow, that should be enough time, so I decided to go!"
Starting from the airport:
After getting off the plane, I took the M11 metro into the city. It took about an hour, then took the subway and then the T1 tram to Sultanahmet. Upon exiting, I felt like, "This is Istanbul!"
Sultanahmet Square
has a very classic atmosphere. On one side is the Blue Mosque, a mosque with a beautiful dome and stunning blue tiles. On the other side is the magnificent Hagia Sophia, steeped in history. Just strolling around the square was worth it.
Galata Tower
From there, take the tram to Karaköy and climb up the hill to the ancient Galata Tower, a vantage point offering a 360-degree view of Istanbul, including the Bosphorus, the ferry, and the old city stretching as far as the eye can see.
Dinner under Galata Bridge
Before heading back to the airport, I chose to end my short trip with a seafood dinner under Galata Bridge. The atmosphere was wonderful. Enjoying freshly grilled fish while watching the boats sail by was a romantic and filling meal.
Back to the airport
Allow a full two hours for the return flight, and you'll arrive at the airport just in time without running out of breath. 😅
⸻
✨ Just half a day in Istanbul will make you feel this city is full of charm, history, art, and delicious food. You'll definitely want to return for a full day.
