A Hidden Gem: Byzantine Church Turned Mosque

My third stop at this under-appreciated attraction, which some might see as a hidden gem. Perhaps it's considered remote with limited transportation options and could require a brief walk through uneven streets unless opting for a taxi. Nonetheless, it boasts an exquisite Byzantine church, likely ranking second in size only to Aya Sofia. After the Ottoman conquest, it was also turned into a mosque and, akin to Aya Sofia, became a museum during Ataturk's era, but recently reverted to a mosque following significant renovations. Sadly, like many Istanbul attractions, it has become pricey. My advice for Muslims: you can pray there without charge. You'll only miss 3 mosaics covered during prayers until they are unveiled again for ticket-bearing visitors.
