The Anatolian Fortress is located on the Asian side of Istanbul. Due to the less convenient land transportation, taking a bus or a taxi takes about the same amount of time. The roads leading to the fortress are narrow and steep, often causing traffic jams. Therefore, it is recommended to take a ferry from Aşiyan on the opposite shore. However, please note that the ferry schedule is not very frequent.
The Anatolian Fortress was built between 1393 and 1394 by Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I as a preparatory measure for the 1395 siege of Constantinople. Although there are no historical artifacts on display inside the fortress, it is very well-preserved. Its intact structure and grandeur make it an excellent spot for photography.
Climbing to the top of the fortress offers stunning views of the surrounding area, including the beautiful Bosphorus Strait and the European continent on the opposite side. However, it is worth noting that the fortress stairs are very steep and uneven, so it is recommended to wear comfortable sports shoes during your visit.
Additionally, since most of the accessible areas of the fortress are outdoors, it is advisable not to visit on rainy days as the outdoor stairs can become very slippery. When visiting the fortress, be mindful of some very low entrances to avoid hitting your head.
The main tower of the fortress stands 25 meters tall. Inside, you will find an interesting sight—many pigeons roosting within.
