Mount Omuro in Shizuoka Prefec

Mount Omuro in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, boasts a distinctive, inverted, bowl-shaped silhouette at an altitude of 580 meters and is the symbol of Ito City (Shizuoka Prefecture).

The traditional mountain burning, held on the second Sunday of February each year to preserve the mountain, has become a popular springtime event in Ito, attracting many visitors.

In February 2020, Mount Omuro, a national natural monument, was awarded one star in the world-renowned Michelin Green Guide Japan (6th edition).

In addition, Mount Omuro is one of the Izu Peninsula's representative geological sites and was designated a UNESCO Global Geopark in April 2019.

Enjoyable Skywalk
We recommend taking a two-person cable car to the summit for a refreshing six-minute skywalk.

From the summit, you can enjoy a "hachi-gaku" (a walking tour) around the approximately one-kilometer crater, offering stunning views of Mount Fuji, the Izu Seven Islands, and Sagami Beach (Sagamikawa Beach). On a clear day, this spot is a popular spot for taking photos with Mount Fuji in the background!

Mt. Omuro is a volcano with a bowl-shaped crater 250-300 meters in diameter, formed by an eruption approximately 4,000 years ago. It is the largest cinder cone in the eastern Izu volcanic group, and the traditional practice of "burning the mountain" has been held since ancient times, creating the shape of the mountain and the terrain, resembling an inverted bowl.

The eruption of Mt. Omuro approximately 4,000 years ago not only created the cinder cone, but also a large amount of lava flowed from the base of the cinder cone, some of which flowed into the sea, creating the beautiful Jogasaki Coast.

Mt. Omuro is often cited as one of Japan's most representative examples of cinder cones for its neat appearance and state of preservation. On August 5, 2020, it was designated a National Natural Monument as a prime example of a solitary volcano.
