Shuzenji is a Soto Zen temple located almost in the center of the Shuzenji tourist area.
It was founded in 807 by Kobo Daishi Kukai, the founder of Shingon Buddhism. It is also known for being the place where the second shogun, Minamoto no Yoriie, was imprisoned during the Kamakura period.
After climbing the stone steps decorated with beautiful flowers, we first went to the Chozuya (purification fountain) before praying. It's actually hot water!
The Chozuya "Daishi no Yu" is a hot spring that flows directly from the source.
Combined with the autumn leaves season, the main hall was very beautiful and stately, and it was an impressive visit.
You can also visit the garden on the temple grounds for 200 yen.
