Having visited Tokyo frequently over the past two years, I've discovered many hidden gems that are both fun and lesser-known. Around Tokyo, there are several places favored by locals that are perfect for couples, families, and day trips. Japan's autumn foliage is particularly stunning, with the leaves reaching a breathtaking climax, painting these hidden spots in vibrant colors. The addition of nighttime light shows makes the illuminated foliage even more spectacular. Often, people ask me about alternatives to Disneyland for family-friendly amusement parks in Tokyo. My usual response was a blank, but this fall, my friend and I discovered a place that's perfect for families and young people alike: Sagamiko Resort!
Sagamiko Resort is vast, with multiple areas offering thrilling experiences, day-use hot springs, and family-friendly activities. It provides a magical and romantic escape from urban life. For a half-day visit, try the 'Muscle Monster,' Asia's first large-scale climbing project. The arena, with its three levels and rooftop observation deck, stands impressively on a mountain top.
As night falls, the most exciting light show begins. While Japanese people enjoy fireworks in summer, winter is for light shows. Sagamiko Resort's light show is one of the top three in the Kanto region, featuring new highlights each year, encapsulating a year's worth of happiness in its dreamy lights, attracting many visitors.
๐ Transportation from Tokyo to Sagamiko Resort: Sagamiko is not far from Tokyo. Take the Keio Line from Shinjuku Station to 'Takao Station,' then transfer to the JR line towards 'Kofu,' 'Otsuki,' or 'Kobuchizawa' and get off at 'Sagamiko Station.' From there, take a bus from bus stop number one to 'PleasureForest Station.' The one-way trip takes about an hour and a half.
